Divorce

If you are ending your marriage or registered partnership, it is important that you make arrangements about your pension. According to law, your ex-partner is entitled to half of the retirement pension accrued during the marriage or partnership. This is referred to as equalisation.

You may also jointly make alternative arrangements and document these in your prenuptial agreement, partnership terms or divorce agreement.

Things you must arrange

If you choose equalisation
Report this to STIP within 2 years of your divorce. Use the following government form for this purpose: 'Mededelingsformulier in verband met verdeling van ouderdomspensioen bij scheiding'. (This is a notification form that specifies how retirement pension is to be divided following a divorce, available in Dutch only). If you report your divorce after 2 years, equalisation will no longer be effected via your pension fund but will have to be arranged between the former partners.

You have jointly made alternative arrangements
Please indicate your arrangements on the ‘Mededelingsformulier in verband met verdeling van ouderdomspensioen bij scheiding’ form (available in Dutch only). Please send us the completed form, with a certified copy of your prenuptial agreement, partnership terms or divorce agreement. We only need a copy of:

  • the 1st page with the names of you and your former partner
  • the page with your pension arrangements
  • the last page with your signature and that of your partner

If you married or entered into a registered partnership outside of the Netherlands, please send us a certified copy of your marriage certificate or certificate of registered partnership. If your marriage or registered partnership was terminated abroad, we also need a certified copy of the proof of divorce or the proof of termination of the registered partnership.

Your ex-partner will receive a statement from us showing all the pension amounts. All the information about your own pension will appear on your annual pension statement (UPO).

Special partner’s pension
During your employment with IKEA you are insured for a risk-based partner's pension. After your relationship ends, your ex-partner is not entitled to part of the partner’s pension.

Were you employed by IKEA before 1 January 2021? Then you have accrued a partner's pension with us. In that case your ex-partner is entitled to part of this partner's pension. This is referred to as the special partner’s pension. Your ex-partner may waive this special partner's pension. Please document these arrangements, sign them and send us a copy.

Must you de-register your partner?
Yes, otherwise we cannot recalculate your pension.

  • Are you married or a registered partner ánd living in the Netherlands?
The municipality where you live will notify us of the change. You do not have to take action yourself.
  • Do you live abroad?
De-register your partner yourself in My pension, at My personal details. Also, please send us a copy of a document that proves that the relationship has ended.
