Cohabitation or marriage

You are retired and have a new partner. Perhaps in the future you will cohabit or get married. How does this affect your pension?

Your pension benefit remains unchanged
If you marry or start cohabiting after your retirement, this has no effect on your pension benefit. The same amount will be deposited into your account each month. Your partner will not be entitled to a partner’s pension. You therefore do not have to register your partner at the pension fund.

Your State pension (AOW) benefit will change
If your partner also receives a State pension (AOW) benefit, you will each start to receive the State pension (AOW) benefit for married couples. This is lower than the State pension (AOW) benefit for singles.
